Smiling confidently, Kersh sang with a strong, smooth voice. He held the crowd in the palm of his hand as he sang his 1996 debut single, ``Goodnight Sweetheart,'' and his current hit, ``If I Never Stop Loving You.''
Brokenheart, a five-piece band from San Antonio, kicked off a rousing first set. Dancers two-stepped around the racetrack dance floor as lead singer Chris Coursey led his band in a well-orchestrated collection of country tunes. Coursey's voice seemed to change with each number, imitating the artists who originally recorded the songs.
Kersh performed songs from his newest album, including Eric Clapton's ``Wonderful Tonight,'' a tender ballad that Kersh said will be his next single.
He also sang tunes by George Strait and a rollicking version of ``Hello Walls.''
Later, he teased the crowd by ripping into bits and pieces of hard rock and rap tunes. To the fans' delight, he continued to go to the extreme, belting out ``Sweet Home Alabama'' and rock classics from the Eagles, then delivering his No. 1 hit, ``Another You,'' with heartfelt emotion.
This versatile, young artist pulled out all the stops and added an extra measure of effects, including distortion, echo and a synthesizer to end his show with an encore of rock tunes.
The quality of the concert was aided by an excellent sound mix.
